Hail Damage Repair in Norwalk

Hail hurts each roofing material in its own way. It bruises shingles, cracks tile and punctures flat membranes. We find every hit, photograph it and explain what it means for your roof before we recommend any repair. Then we fix what the storm actually broke.

What Hail Repair Involves, and When It Makes Sense

Hail is uncommon around Norwalk, and most of it falls during winter storms as pea-sized pellets. Even small stones can do real harm to a roof that is already aging. The tricky part is that hail damage rarely shows from the ground. A bruised shingle looks fine from the driveway, and a hairline crack in a concrete tile can hide under the overlap of the course above it.

A repair is the right call when the hits are scattered and the surrounding shingles, tile or membrane are sound. When the impacts are dense across whole slopes, or the roof is near the end of its life anyway, we will tell you that replacing it is likely the better use of your money. That answer comes from what we see on the roof, not from the size of the job.

What Our Hail Damage Repair Covers

Asphalt shingle hits

We check each slope for bruises, spots where the granules are knocked loose and the fiberglass mat underneath is cracked or softened. Damaged shingles are lifted, the nails pulled, and new shingles matched as closely as possible for color and profile.

Concrete and clay tile

Tile tends to crack at the corners or split across the face. We replace broken pieces and check the underlayment beneath them, because that layer is what keeps water out once a tile is gone.

Flat and low-slope roofs

On modified bitumen, built-up and single-ply membranes, we look for punctures, crushed insulation and gravel knocked off the surface. Damaged areas are cut out and patched in the same membrane family so the seams bond properly.

Metal parts and vents

Dents in soft metal such as roof vents, flashing and gutters show us how big the hail was and which way it came from. We repair or replace dented pieces that no longer seal or drain the way they should.

A photo record

Every hit we mark gets photographed with chalk circles and a scale reference. You keep the photos, and they back up an insurance claim if you choose to file.

Signs Hail Has Damaged Your Roof

  • Dents in gutters and downspouts

Round dings in aluminum gutters or downspouts mean hail struck hard enough to mark metal. If the gutters took hits, the roof above them did too.

  • Granules piling up below downspouts

A drift of dark, sand-like grit at the downspout outlet after a storm points to shingles losing their protective coating.

  • Cracked or chipped tile

Tile fragments in a planter or on the patio usually mean pieces have broken loose. A missing corner is enough to let rain reach the underlayment.

  • Spatter marks on the roof

Fresh, clean circles on oxidized vents, skylight frames or dusty tile show where stones landed. They help us map the impact pattern.

  • A ceiling stain that shows up late

Hail damage does not always leak right away. A split tile or a pierced membrane can hold for a while, then let water through during a later rain, leaving a brown ring on the ceiling long after the storm is forgotten.

The Steps of a Hail Repair

  1. 1

A free look at each slope

We go over the roof, test-square a section on every slope, and mark and count each hit. We also check gutters and soft metal, which show how big the hail was and where it came from.

  2. 2

Photos and a free written estimate

You receive the photos, a plain account of the damage to each surface, and a free itemized written estimate. If you file, we work with your insurance claim directly and can meet your adjuster on the roof. Your insurer decides what is covered.

  3. 3

    Ordering matching material

We order shingles, tile or membrane that match your roof as it is today. If an older tile profile is out of production, we go over choices like salvaging tile from a slope no one sees.

  4. 4

    The repair itself

We cover plants and the driveway, pull the damaged pieces, check the underlayment and decking below, and put in new shingles, tile or membrane with correct nailing and flashing. A magnet sweep of the yard finishes the day.

What Changes the Cost of a Hail Repair

Most of the total comes down to what your roof is covered with and how widely the hail landed. The written estimate splits the job into separate lines so you see what each part costs. Bigger repairs can be paid over time through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.

What the roof is made of
Shingle repairs tend to be the simplest. Tile needs more care, since neighboring pieces have to come up without cracking, and finding a discontinued profile can take a while.
How many hits, and where
A handful of scattered hits keeps the repair small. Hits on every slope can make roof replacement the better discussion.
The layers below
Worn-out underlayment or soft decking uncovered when shingles or tile come off adds to the job. You see photos before we do any extra work.
Slope and reach
Steep pitches, two-story eaves and narrow side yards take more safety setup and more handling time.

Hail Damage Repair Questions

Something not covered here? (562) 534-3894

Can small hail really damage a roof?

Yes, though rarely by punching holes. Pea-sized stones do the most harm to shingles that have dried and stiffened with age, and to tile that has weathered for decades. On those roofs they can strip granules, crack the shingle mat or split a brittle tile edge. A free inspection settles whether your roof took real damage.

Should I file an insurance claim before or after you inspect?

Many homeowners have us look first so they know whether there is real damage before they open a claim. If there is, our photos and written findings give you something concrete to share. We work directly with your insurance claim, but your insurer and adjuster decide what is covered.

Will the new shingles or tiles stand out?

Usually only a little, and often only for a while. Fresh shingles in the same color tend to look a shade brighter until sun and dust tone them down. With tile, we hunt for the same profile and finish, and when a style has been discontinued we may pull matching pieces from a slope nobody sees.

How long does a hail repair take?

Most repairs on a single-family home are finished in one day once materials are on hand. Larger tile or flat roof repairs can run longer, and we give you the expected schedule with the estimate.
